The Gatsby Essay

Prom is coming up and Skylar wanted to ask his first love Becca, but the problem is that Becca is together with a real mean, disrespectful guy named Bumper. Skylar truly believes that Becca is still in love with him.
Skylar has two months to swift Becca off her feet and dump Bumper. Luckily for Skylar, Becca's cousin Amy is in town and Amy approves Skylar then Bumper. Amy hates Bumper, despises him. Amy is always telling Becca that Skylar is way more deserving then Bumper. But the only reason why Becca is with Bumper is because he's the most popular guy at school and plus he's rich with a very expensive car. Skylar has a car, but its only a ford fusion unlike Bumpers which is a Land Rover.
Skylar always tries to hang out with her all the time but Bumper always gets in the way and tries to get rid of him. Bumper knows his plan to get Becca back and he laughs at Skylar for even trying. Bumper has never been dumped but you can bet he dumped dozens of girls.
Skylar starts hanging out with Becca's cousin, Amy, a lot because he knows that Becca will be around. Amy is a thick girl, but not to thick, beautiful face with great bright green eyes that could see your soul. Amy, her soul is peer never broken. She has great long thick auburn hair that glows in the light. Skylar always thought she was beautiful but his heart belonged to Becca who has the same great green eyes, but her eyes have an intensity that he loved, her hair was much different from her  cousin's. Her hair was a dark red cut short into a bob.
As Skylar and Amy hung out more, Becca started to become jealous of Amy because she knew how great Skylar was, but she didn't loved him anymore, but then again she didn't love Bumper either. She was just with him because she knew she'd have the prom she always dreamed of with him.
Its been a month until prom and Skylar is running out of time and he doesn't know how to get Becca back. At this time Amy and Skylar have been getting really close and Amy is starting to have feelings for him but she knows his heart belongs to her cousin.
Amy goes to Becca's house to talk to her about her feeling toward Skylar and Skylars plot to get her back. Becca was fine with Amy being with Skylar, but is not fine with him trying to get her back
So Becca thought the best solution for Becca to solve the situation is to talk to skylar and try to get him and Amy together. So Becca goes to his house, of course he's there, skylar is excited to see her, except he notices that somethings wrong. He invites her in and Becca tells him that she doesn't love him and that he needs to stop the silly plan and figure out who he wants to take to prom except for her, Becca mentioned that he should take Amy. Skylar was crushed by Beccas words of her saying she doesn't love him anymore but when she mentioned Amy he felt something. He didn't know what it was except that it made him smile inside. A week goes by and unexpectedly Skylar asks Amy to prom and she said yes. Prom is here and Amy and Becca looks beautiful in their dresses and Skylar is excited to go with Amy. No one dies. Sorry i don't like it when characters die.

I thought this was interesting and it deserves a share

The End Of Gatsby

I loved the book! So disappointed when Gatsby died though. I finished reading the book a week ago because once I started reading into chapter 6 I couldn't put it down. The only thing that I didn't get in the end was that Gatsby had a father, but denied it when he was alive. I don't get why he would say he was a orphan?! Can't wait to see the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio.

MAPLAN

I'm still not sure how i'm going to hack the project but i am definitely going to try something different, something unique, unexpected, im not sure what it is but i guess thats whats going to make it unexpected. I 've been researching my modernist authors alot so i got that part down now i just need to get them all together and get my project together. Im sorry this is late i honestly forgotten last night. I was literally researching about my authors last night.

Writing Modern

My writing now sucks because i guess o wasn't properly taught with all the school hopping through my elementary days. If it was five years ago i probably would have learned the proper way to write an essay.

Map(1): Introducing Langston Hughes, Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, and Tennessee Williams

Langston Hughes:

  1. Hughes was raised primarily by his grandmother. She told him important stories of the African-American oral tradition that would influence his work.
  2. Hughes’ father wanted him to become an engineer, so Hughes attended Columbia for a time. He left because of racial intolerance and because he wanted to spend more time writing in Harlem.
  3. He graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in 1929. Among his classmates was future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.
  4. For a number of years, Hughes was attracted to some of the political philosophies of the Communist Party. Though accused of being a member, he never actually joined
  5. Hughes died of prostate cancer in 1967 at the age of 65. His ashes are buried in Harlem under a special medallion in the Arthur Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
Ernest Hemingway:

  1.  Hemingway met J.D. Salinger during World War II. Salinger was fighting with the 12th Infantry Regiment
  2. Hemingway’s memoir A Moveable Feast, about his life in Paris in the 1920s, was not published until 1964.
  3.  Hemingway only wrote one play called The Fifth Column and it is set during the Spanish Civil War
  4. Hemingway was awarded a Bronze Star for his bravery under-fire in World War II when he was a war correspondent.
  5. Hemingway left trunks of material in the Paris Ritz in 1928 and did not recover them until 1957
  6. Hemingway’s sister and brother, and also his father committed suicide as well.
  7. The FBI maintained an open file on Hemingway from World War II onwards.
Ezra Pound:

  1. Pound was a great admirer of William Butler Yeats, believing him to be the greatest living poet at the time. They even lived together for a short time during World War I, and Pound briefly served as Yeats’ secretary
  2. Pound was married to Dorothy Shakespear, who was the daughter of Olivia Shakespear, a former lover of W. B. Yeats. A few years after marrying Shakespear, Pound began a romantic relationship with violinist Olga Rudge. The three carried on a romantic relationship until Pound’s death nearly fifty years later
  3. Pound was also a noted translator of Asian literature. He revived many Confucian works and brought Japanese poetry and drama into the forefront in America and Europe
  4. Music became a large part of Pound’s life in the 1920s. He is mainly responsible for bringing Vivaldi’s music back into popularity
  5. Pound was friends with Ernest Hemingway, who tried to teach Pound to box. Hemingway said of the experience, “I was never able to teach him to throw a left hook.”
Tennessee Williams:

  1. Williams’ mentally ill sister, Rose, was lobotomized and provided the inspiration for tragic characters in Suddenly, Last Summer and The Glass Menagerie. His domineering, unstable mother was the basis for Amanda Wingfield inMenagerie and Blanche DuBois in Streetcar
  2. His real name is Thomas Lanier Williams. His friends gave him the nickname “Tennessee” because of his thick Southern drawl
  3. Williams caused controversy with his screenplay for Baby Doll, a Lolita-esque drama about a middle-aged man’s obsession with a teenage girl.
  4. One of his most famous plays, A Streetcar Named Desirewas originally titled The Poker Night
  5. Williams succumbed to the addictions he so often portrayed in his plays. Alcohol and prescription drugs contributed to his death by choking in 1983.

My Modernist

I decided I'm going to research four modernist writers. I decided to do you that because researching one isn't enough for me. I'm researching Langston Hughes and Ernest Hemingway because I always hear about them and I don't know who they really are. And I'm also researching Ezra Pound and Tennessee Williams because I never heard of them and they have very interesting names. I'm actually glad that we're researching modernist writers and how their Novel, saying, poems, ext. In English class, we never really get to know the author of the books we read.

"The first seven years" response

I thought it was weird that when Feld was meddling into his daughters love life, is that it seemed like he was arranging a husband for her. I knew the moment Sobel walked out of the shoe shop that he was mad at Feld for asking Max to ask Miriam out on a date. I thought it was insensitive of Feld that he didn't try to understand Sobel and why he liked to read. He just assumed Sobel was queer(weird). This story relates back to "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury, because Feld  didn't understand the point in reading if you didn't have a college degree. Sobels dedication to Miriam, reminds me of a book I read for literature analysis, "Shadow land" by Allison Noel. In the book, the character Damen, waits til Ever, to grow up to  become a teenager before he introduces  himself because he's immortal and in love with her. So when I read the part that Sobel's only reason for working at the shoe store was because he was waiting til Miriam became a woman. I liked the story, it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be. A good moral that came out of this story would be is don't judge a book by its cover. And this moral can go both ways in the story, sentimental and literally.

And then there was light!!!

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while I'm really behind and I'm trying my best to catch up so all I can ask is for your patience and I promise I'll get back on track in no time!

Spring literature analysis #1

General:
1: The plot of "The Shadowland" by Alison Noel is that Ever(leading girl in the story) had to make a decision to save her "soul mate", Damen, or let him die . If she saves him they can never touch because the cure is her DNA. So she does it and after he is cured they try tho find an antidote to fix the spell. Damen finds out if him and Ever ever die they are sent to the shadow land which is a trap for your soul for eternity because they are immortals so Damien breaks up with Ever to let her think if she wants to be with a guy that has been her lover in her past lives she falls for the other guy until her best friend is dying from poison and a bad guy Roman did it and he give her the option to either save her friend or get the antidote to Damens spell she choose her friend.
2: The theme of the book is that love conquers any obstacles.
3: I'm not sure about the tone.
4: the author used foreshadowing when Roman started to hang out with Ever's best friend, she used allusion; Noel knew how to connect to her readers through allusion, the author used a lot of flashback in the story relating the story to the previous story before it, she does a great job of imagery; you can read the story like a movie,
Characterization:
1: In the book there was times where Ever was in summerland (which is a fictional place made out of energy) where she brought out who she really is as a character. She can be herself when Damens around, because he knows her secret about being immortal. Damens character is based on how he looks. Like for example damen wears expensive clothes, has the bad boy look, and drives a 100 thousand car. The author shows the characters personality by what he looks like.
2. The syntax of the story is more of slang and makes teenage readers understand by using informal language.
3.  I think the protagonist(Roman) is a round character, because he's almost an open book except he hides his intentions and motives.
4. I came out of the book like i met the character. The author makes the character feel like your friends with the character and you've known them a long time.

The Peeved Pedestrian

I can't tell you what made Ray Bradbury write F 451 but I have a good idea. I think Bradbury was thinking about his future one day, like the rest of the people, and it turned into what is the future for the nation. I'm not sure why Bradbury thought up the future without books. In a way he hit the futue right on the nail with foreshadowing, though not all the details he mentioned were true, but he was close. Everything In the present time is relied on Facebook, the internet. There's a commercial that state everything online is true. Which most people know is false. Everything, now, relies on a device that pretty much tells you what to do. Its such a necessity to have a phone, computer, tv, iPods, ect. That we forget that before all this technology kids played outside and read books and enjoyed it. Its so hard to find kids today that do all of that stuff.

I'm A Poet And I Know It!

What did you mean
When you came to me
Only in a dream
The thought of you buzzes like a bee.
I can't make it go away,
Nor do I want to.
I thought of you today.
I feel you.
I know when your with me,
I feel my heart swell and grow warm.
I can't see.
The emotion of your absence is a storm.
I wonder why,
I remember the good, but I remember the bad.
I think of you and sigh,
Every time I feel sad.
Because your not home,
Where I need you.
You were as sweet as a honey comb.
I miss you, I do.
Come wake me up,
From this long and lonely dream.
I just want to jump,
Out of this nightmare it seems.
What did you mean
When you came to me
Only in a dream.

Fahrenheit 451

  1. The government doesn't like citizens reading books
  2. You can get arrested for reading
  3. People are opinion less without a good source of education
  4.  Books can be full of adventure
  5.  The books future is meaningless and government has all power.

Theme for English 3

  • Yes and no. I'm usually always respectable but then there's the moment s with friends.
  • Of course I can be my real self while pursuing my future because if I wasn't myself I would be lying and I hate lying.
  • I don't really have to check myself unless I'm in a bitchy attitude then I tone it down and not say anything.
  • I love being in plays if that counts but I mostly like to be out in the country and ride horses and listen to music.
  • I'm not really sure, I can't think of any at the time.
  • The only thing I like to keep private would be crushes I guess is the only thing I'm an open book except for that
  • I guess its possible for me to be in charge of my learning I've never done it so I don't know how it would go.

Spring Semester Plan 1.

I plan to stop procrastinating and do my homework and study more on vocabulary.

Spring Post 1. Music as Literature

I think music is literature, its pretty much poetry just singing it. I define literature as an English class, I read a lot but I haven't thought it was literature unless I was forced to read.  A novel is a long story made into a book a poem is a short stanzas that rhyme. Music and poetry is very similar but music its being sang or expressed by the rhythm of the instruments. Teanna Silveira's song that spoke to he was "second chance" by Shine Down Faith and Hope. I asked Teanna "what are your feelings towards the song and she said "that I rely on my own Independence, and saying goodbye will give me that chance, Faith and Hope." I'm sorry Dr. Preston this isn't that well thought out I'm not feeling very well.

Fall Semester Reflection

 1. Yes I do see my colleagues blog. I don't look at  their blogs every time I'm blogging but I do look at my colleagues blogs at least 3-4 times a month. By having access to their work I get ideas that help my project better than if I did it without any help.
2. I would die if the course blog disappeared this way of learning is so much more interesting than the original way of learning.
3. If we didn't publish everything online and instead turned everything in I would probably not be doing so well in the class because if I forget to do an assignment I can always do it the next day. I really like the class.
4.my learning happens in the classroom and online. It definitely has changed learning aspects by giving us a new way of learning online and teaching us the right way to use the internet.
5.I do not know how to answer the question I don't get what you are asking.
6.my family probably could care less about what I do in class as long as I get a good grade.
7.  It would be nice for my family to care and ask about what I do in my classes but I'm used to it.
